Ben T. Rigby, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Director of Psychology and Learning
Dr. Rigby earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Wofford College in 1994. Immediately after Wofford, he began his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Western Carolina University. Upon graduating with his master’s degree, Dr. Rigby worked as a staff psychologist for the Southeastern Mental Health Center in Wilmington, NC for two years before returning to graduate school to pursue his doctorate in School Psychology at the University of South Carolina. He completed an APA-accredited internship at the Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center in Erie, PA and graduated with his doctorate in 2002. Dr. Rigby then moved to Greenville to complete a post-doctoral fellowship with Developmental Pediatrics of the Greenville Hospital System.
Dr. Rigby joined the staff of the Speech, Hearing, and Learning Center in 2003 and became the Center’s Director of Psychology & Learning Services. He finds his work at SHLC rewarding, especially the level of contact it affords him with so many different families. He is often inspired by the level of dedication that the parents and other family members he works with have towards solving their loved ones’ educational, social, or emotional difficulties.
Professional involvement has included appointed and elected positions on the South Carolina Psychological Association’s Executive Council, being awarded as one of ten “Early Career Psychologists” at the American Psychological Association’s national State Leadership Conference in 2005, and current appointments on the S.C. Board of Examiners in Psychology and the Greenville Friends of the Guardian Ad Litem board. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, and the S.C. Psychological Association. At home, Dr. Rigby enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and golden retriever. His interests include reading, spending time with family and friends, church activities, gardening/yard-work, and watching college football.
