Hearing aids offered - types and models |
We fit digital hearing aids almost exclusively. Utilizing the latest in digital hearing technology, these hearing aids are programmable and reprogrammable when connected to a computer. This gives even more flexibility, advanced compression circuitry to address loud noises, the potential for multiple programs for different environments and in most cases a function specifically designed for noise suppression. The result for most people is a clearer sound with less distortion and greater comfort. While all models adjust loudness automatically, remote controls, volume controls, and program switches allow greater flexibility for the discerning listener. Exciting new advancements in hearing aids include improved feedback (whistling) control, Blue Tooth connectivity for hands-free connection to cell phones, tiny open-fit receiver-in-the-canal hearing aids, and rechargeable hearing aids. Steps to Obtain a Hearing Aid
- Call 864-331-1400 to schedule an appointment with one of our audiologists for a hearing evaluation or schedule an appointment for a consultation with one of our audiologists. If you have had a hearing evaluation performed by a licensed audiologist within the past 6 months, please bring a copy of the test results. It is a good idea to bring a spouse or friend with you to this appointment. There is a lot of information provided!

- Decide on the style and model of hearing aids that you would like to order. Your Speech, Hearing & Learning Center audiologist will help you decide on the manufacturer and model of hearing aid based on your individual needs and circumstances. The order is usually placed at the time of the hearing evaluation or consultation. Financing is available with three month and six month no-interest payment plans, as well as a 48 month budget payment plan are available through Citi Health Card for those who qualify.
- Fit - New hearing aid orientation and fitting lasts one hour. Wearing hearing aids is often a new experience. We are firm believers in making sure we have enough time to spend with you to fit the devices properly, and to make sure you know how to start using them successfully. Therefore the fitting usually takes place one to three weeks after placing the order.
- Follow Up - A one to two-week follow-up appointment is scheduled at the time of the fitting. This is an important appointment to fine tune the settings after you’ve had a chance to wear them in everyday circumstances. We want to make sure that soft sounds are audible and loud sounds are not too loud. If multiple adjustments are made at the time of the follow-up appointment, a second follow-up appointment is usually scheduled. Other follow-up appointments are scheduled as necessary, but most patients are seen every 6 months.
- 30 Day Return Privilege – all hearing aids purchased from The Speech, Hearing & Learning Center may be returned within 30 days of purchase for a refund or credit towards a different make or model, provided the hearing aids are not lost or damaged. There is a relatively small charge for hearing aids returned for refund (currently $150.00). If different hearing aids are selected before the trial period is over, 100% of the purchase price is typically credited toward the newly selected hearing aids.
