Born and raised in Alabama, Dr. Batson attended a small liberal arts school, Birmingham-Southern College, where she graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Art. Upon graduation, Dr. Batson worked for two years at University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) Hospital administering neuropsychological tests to adults with various dementias. With an interest in psychological assessment and children, Dr. Batson began graduate school at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she earned a doctorate degree in Child Clinical Psychology in 2002.

Dr. Batson completed an APA-approved internship through Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She subsequently completed two years of post-doctoral training in Pediatric Neuropsychology through Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. In addition to the evaluation of attention and learning problems, Dr. Batson has particular interests in the assessment of children with genetic syndromes and developmental disabilities. She is enthusiastic about being part of the Speech, Hearing, and Learning Center’s team due to the personalized service that the center provides the families it serves. She additionally enjoys the collaborative nature encouraged among the multiple agencies housed within the Center for Developmental Services.

Professional memberships include the American Psychological Association (APA) and the International Neuropsychological Society (INS). Within the immediate community, Dr. Batson serves as a member of Buncombe Street Child Development Center’s Advisory Board. Personal past times include spending time with her husband and two young children, enjoying Greenville’s beautiful downtown, and traveling to visit extended family and friends.
