Welcome to the Psychology and Learning Department of The Speech, Hearing, and Learning Center!
Our department consists of doctoral-level psychologists, a learning specialist, and support staff. Our staff psychologists primarily focus on the diagnostic assessment and consultation of various learning and developmental issues for clients preschool age to adults*. Common referral concerns include: dyslexia and other learning disabilities, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), intellectual functioning, autism-spectrum disorders, and social-emotional-behavioral barriers to learning such as anxiety or depression. Our learning specialist concentrates primarily on academic assistance for children and adolescents with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Our support staff includes individuals who assist with scheduling appointments, transcription, and fee payments.
As a department, we strive to maintain working relationships with various professionals (e.g., educators, physicians, therapists) who are equipped to implement needed interventions for our clients. Outside of our major roles outlined above, our staff provides school readiness assessments on behalf of various private schools, speaks to community and school organizations, and periodically offers treatment groups for clients and their families.
*For adult clients, we narrow the scope of our services only to clients whose referral question involves possible ADHD or learning disabilities.
