Fluency Device Service and Support FAQs
I have a problem with my fluency device. Who do I contact?
Janus requests that your first contact be with your SpeechEasy Provider. The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will be able to troubleshoot issues such as wax impaction, dead batteries, and low volume. If you are unable to contact your Providing SLP, give us a call at 1-877-4 Fluency. (1-877-435-8362)
Who is authorized to repair my SpeechEasy fluency device?
At this time Janus Development Group is the only authorized facility to repair SpeechEasy devices. Your local audiologist or hearing aid dealer is qualified to clean, vacuum, and maintain devices similar to SpeechEasy. However, please be aware that any internal work or modifications to the shell of the fluency device could potentially void the manufacturer's warranty.
How do I send in my fluency device for repair?
Your SpeechEasy Provider has been supplied with prepaid packaging to get a device back to our manufacturing facility free of charge. Should you forgo this free shipping and choose to send your fluency device directly to us, we will not reimburse shipping. Please take great care in packaging your device as securely as possible (possibly using foam and/or bubble wrap). We also suggest that you place insurance on the shipment - as the potential exists for devices to become lost in transit.
What is the warranty on my fluency device?
Your SpeechEasy fluency device is covered by a one year limited manufacturer's warranty. Full details of the warranty can be found at our Limited Warranty page.
Is an extended warranty available?
Yes. An extended warranty is available for purchase, which covers manufacturer defects for a period of one or two years beyond the original limited manufacturer's warranty. Full details can be found on our Extended Warranty Service Plan page.
How long does your battery last?
A typical device battery will last 4 to 7 days, assuming six to eight hours of usage per day. Batteries will last longer if they are removed from the device at night and when not in use.
The sound is cutting in and out, what do I do?
One of the main causes of sound cutting in and out is a dead battery. Zinc air amplifier batteries will recharge over time. However this recharge will only last 5 to 20 minutes in most cases. Be sure to dispose of old batteries and use only new batteries when replacement is necessary.
My fluency device appears to be working properly, but I am experiencing a drop in fluency. What can I do?
The best solution is to contact your SLP. The drop in fluency could be due to a low signal that you may be having difficulty focusing on. Alternately, an adjustment to the DAF may be necessary and may restore your fluency level.
My volume decreases over time, what is happening?
Most likely wax is beginning to clog your unit. As the wax dries it shrinks and opens the sound tube aperture and more sound can come though. As it heats up and moisture is introduced, the wax expands and causes the volume level to decrease. To rectify this, please be sure to clean the tip of your SpeechEasy fluency device on a daily basis. In certain circumstances, you may need an audiologist to clean your unit with a special vacuum.
Why is there static in my fluency device?
Two main causes of static are low batteries and moisture in the device. To resolve an issue of low battery power, simply replace the battery. To resolve issues of static caused by moisture, try storing your SpeechEasy device in a hearing aid style drying kit
