About Our Organization
Since 1948, The Speech, Hearing & Learning Center, a non-profit, freestanding,
community based clinic, has been entrusted by the people of upstate South Carolina
to help them overcome their hearing, speech and learning disorders. Our clients,
ranging in age from infant to 100+ years old, rely on us to deliver the most
comprehensive and effective treatment possible. We are not affiliated with any
government agency. Our financial support comes from fees paid for our services
by individuals, insurance providers, Medicaid and other third party providers.
Additionally, we receive substantial support from the
United Way of Greenville County to subsidize the fees for services for people who
live or work in Greenville County and who cannot afford to pay full fees.
The Speech Department offers evaluations and therapy
for speech and language disorders including articulation, language, voice and fluency.
The Audiology Department offers comprehensive
hearing evaluations as well as central auditory processing disorders, consults with
individuals about hearing loss, fits hearing aids ranging from basic to digital
technology and provides industrial hearing testing in the mobile unit.
The Learning Department provides
evaluations for various educational purposes as well as educational therapy.
Special
Programs: We are also very involved in the community,
providing free screenings at various health fairs in our mobile unit, as well as offering a
monthly clinic with a professional team approach for individuals with facial anomalies and cleft lip
and/or palate (F.A.C.E.T. Clinic).
Our devoted, highly trained and licensed professional staff, together with caring,
courteous support staff provides a full spectrum of services, meeting the needs of our community.
