Learning
The Learning Department of the Speech, Hearing, and Learning
Center was developed to help individuals and/or their parents understand and treat learning problems
in school or work settings. Usually beginning with an evaluation, the clinician is able to determine cognitive
and academic strengths and weaknesses, preferred learning style, and make specific recommendations
relative to the individual client's needs. The influence of possible significant emotional features may also
be addressed. If a specific disability does exist, a diagnosis will be made, such as Dyslexia or other learning
disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Mental Retardation, or Giftedness. If requested by the
client or guardians, clinicians at the Speech, Hearing and Learning Center may then provide information to
other professionals working with the client, for example, physicians, educators, counselors, or human resource
personnel. Educational therapy is also provided by our center, including specialized tutoring, counseling and consultation.
